Resident Therapy Dog, Lola

About

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (Lic. 115753) who works with children, teens, and adult clients in both California and Wisconsin.

Bringing an element of humanity into the therapy room is very important to me.  I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist is one of the most important and foundational aspects of therapy.  I am drawn towards a variety of techniques, including Gestalt, CBT, Play Therapy, psychodynamic, and trauma-informed approaches.  I strongly believe that being comfortable with your therapist, in a way where you can express an array of feelings and emotions is crucial, from joy and gratitude, to sadness, anger, resentment, and regret. I work to create a safe, non-judgmental space that allows clients to be themselves. As a therapist, I show up authentically and establish a real connection using empathy, creativity, and humor.

Some of the topics that often come up in my sessions include, anxiety, depression, addiction, phase of life issues, and relationship struggles.  I have particular familiarity and connection with those in the LGBTQ community, and how they deal with issues of identity. I have experience working with a diverse population and strive to provide culturally humble and conscious care that honor a client's culture, beliefs, and traditions.

I find great healing can come from an awareness of our bodies and our experience in the present moment.  Referring to mindfulness and meditation techniques, I like to focus on expanding somatic awareness.

My own struggles as a teen and young adult led me to this path of being a therapist.  Having experienced first hand what it took to survive those years, I feel a sense of responsibility to offer others similar guidance through their storms.

I have a French Bulldog/Boston Terrier mix named Lola who will join us (and most likely snore through) our sessions.
